Welcome to Indy's Photojournal!
On December 26, 1999 our search for our new family member finally ended when Mayfair Farms (outside of Pillager, Minnesota) sent us an email with an attached picture of 8 beautiful Mastiff pups (in response to a call we made form an ad in the Minneapolis paper). The next morning we hopped in the Jeep with Liz's father and headed for western Minnesota with high hopes.
The proud parents, Mighty Mitchell and Charming Chezzie, greeted us at the door before we met the puppies. We couldn't believe MITCHELL! The owners said he was just over 3 years old and weighed something like 225 pounds. Fortunately these guys take about 2 years (on the right diet) to reach their full size.
Before we got to meet the babies we wanted to make sure that dad felt comfortable around us. His enormous BARK was just his way of saying "hello," and in a couple of minutes he really warmed up to everyone.
We were really lucky to get to see the babies first! There were 4 little girls and 4 little boys with 4 "fawn" and 4 "apricot" in color. So we really had the pick of the litter, but when it came down to choosing, the little adventuresome one chose us. We were both kind of leaning towards one of the fawn boys, but when the little man snuck in and stole some of his momma's food we knew he was the one. So what do you name a little adventurer who always wears khaki and looks like he never shaves???
Here's the little guy's pedigree.... it may not be all that clear, but it is the closest thing to a birth certificate we've got.
It's hard to believe he was ever this small, but on December 27, 1999 we brought the little "chubs" home and he proceeded to pee right on my lap just seconds after this picture was taken.
